New Life Creations
Mother's day brings to me some fond memories of when my own girls
were quite young. We use to go out in the
yard and look for 'spots'... we would dig through a small patch of
grass looking for any thing from sand to ants to
other life in these 'spots'. Every once in a while we would
come across a toad, as there were many in our sandy
back yard. Sometimes the girls would come in and show me
as many as 10 or more from one spot in the grass.
Now as adults we share about these experiences when we come
together for Mother's Day. So for this first
block of May... we can all share "Toad in the Puddle".
* please make note that many of the fabric requirement are cut a bit larger than actually needed. This will make it easier to square up the various pieces in each block.
fabric requirements:
2 - 3 1/2" light squares
2 - 2 1/2" light squares (cut on diagonal)
4 - 3" light squares (cut on diagonal)
4 - 3 1/2 x 2" rectangles medium light
1 - 2 1/2" medium dark square
2 - 3 1/2" medium dark squares
4 - 2" dark squares
Step # 1 make half square triangles:
1. Following diagram #1 to make half square triangles. Use the 3
1/2" light squares and the 3 1/2" medium
dark squares Mark a pencil line across the
diagonal. Sew 1/4" on each side of the pencil mark. Cut apart
on the pencil line. Press each square to the darker
fabric. Square up each square to 2 1/2" each.
Step # 2
1. Following the diagram below sew together the 2 1/2" medium dark square
with the the 2 1/2" light squares that
are cut on the diagonal. Square up this unit to 3
1/2".
Step # 3.
1. Us two of the 3 1/2" x 2" rectangles and all four
of the 2" dark squares sew them together as shown below.
2. Sew the remaining two 3 1/2" x 2"
rectangles to opposing sides of the unit made in step # 2. Then sew the two
strips made about to square the center unit as shown below:
3. Use the 3" light squares
cut on the diagonal and the 1/2 square triangles pieces. Sew them together as shown
below:
Step # 4
1. Assemble the above units to the square previously made as
shown below:
2. Square up to 8 1/2".
When completed your block should measure 8 1/2". If
