this block requires several different combinations of four patch squares to complete the block. Using the various cuts of the 2 1/2" squares make the following 4-patch pieces.

Step #2. Make the center step.
1. Cut the 5" black square on the diagonal as shown in the diagram below. Then cut the 3" white on the diagonal as shown in diagram.
2. Using one of the remaining 2 1/2" squares sew together the white triangles as shown to the lower and right sides of the purple square. Trim excess from the upper and left side of this newly formed white an purple triangle.
3. Sew the two triangles together with a standard 1/4" seam allowance.
4. Square up this square to 4 1/2" as shown in diagram below.

Step #3. Assembly of the block
1. This block is assemble as a 9-patch block. Use the finished block at the top of the page as a guide for placement of all the pieces of this block.
2. Sew together with a standard 1/4" seam from left to right across the bottom row then the top row ( horizontal rows). Reverse this process and sew across the two vertical seams to complete the assembly of the block.
