Broken Dishes

Broken Dishes is a traditional pattern that is made of all half square triangles.  No two half
square trianges are the same.  The fabric requirements will at times provide for extra pieces of
fabrics that can be used in other projects.  All colors will closely reflect the colors shown in
 the above finished block.

1.  Fabric  Requirments:
     * all pieces below will be cut as 4" squares and cut on the diagonal. You will be making half square triangles.  Each one is a different color combination and it will be necessary to follow the diagram below for the exact combination and lay out

2.  Making individual half square triangles:

   1. Place the various colors (as shown below) right sides together.

  2. Pin pieces together at both ends and in the middle.   (Because these pieces are cut on the bias this is necessary to
       prevent stretching).

 3.  Press with darker side up.

 4. Square each square to 3 1/2" squares.

Assembly:

1.  Follow the diagram below for correct placement of each of the newly created half square triangles.

2.  Sew together horizontally then vertically to complete the block.
