Quilt Block of the Month
for
August, 1998

Arrow Block

This block will measure 12 1/2" unfinished.  It is one more block in the series for this years annual quilt sampler.

Fabric Requirements:

color # A  Orange
color # B  purple

cut:

2 - 4 1/2" squares of both colors A and B
6 - 2 1/2" squares of both colors A and B

4 - 3" squares of color A
4 - 3" squares of color B

Assembly:

Half square triangles:

1.  Using the 3" square of both colors A and B.  Put these squares fronts together. Draw a pencil line on the
     diagonal.

2.  Stitch with a 1/4" seam on each side of the pencil line.

3.  Cut these pieces apart on the penciled diagonal line.

4.  Press open with the lighter fabric toward the darker fabric.

5.  Square up each of these new squares to 2 1/2" squares  (I intentionally size a bit larger just incase some
of the stitching is out of line.  It allows for easier corrections when squaring up these half square triangles)

Assembling your block:

1. Line up all your pieces as shown below:

2.  sew together as 4 sections as shown below:

..........................................

3.  Align these 4 sections as shown below:

5.  Sew all four sections together to complete the block.

When completed your block should measure 12 1/2".  I am hopeful that my instructions are becoming easier to understand. If you have any questions about this block or other patterns or information on New Life Creations please e-mail me at:    flair@nwlife.com or juliasbb@yahoo.com .
