This attractive pattern can form many pleasing arrangements of color when made into an overall quilt. As light corners are joined to corresponding light corners of other blocks, new and larger squares form, revealing other patterns of squares, triangles and crosses.
Cutting Instructions:
Color A = light
Color B = medium (optional)
Color C = dark
#1 Cut 4 Color A for the 4 corners
#2 Cut 8 Color C for outer triangles
(optional Color B)
#3 Cut 4 Color A for interior triangles
#4 Cut one Color A for the center of block
#5 Cut 4 Color B
Sewing Instructions:
All these pieces are template cuts but they can be easily adapted with measurement that are provided for rotary cutter cutting.
Please follow the diagram provided of the finished block for
piecing your block together... I am absolutely no good at giving instructions
for putting this block together...
By constructing the inner cross first I found the easiest way to put
together this block. By now it is apparent that I am terrible
at giving the stitching instructions. I will again do my best to
tell you how I constructed this block.
With right sides together sew the #3 Triangles to the #5 long
pointed piece. Sew pieces together starting at the straight edge of the
#5 piece so that the pointed edge extends passed the end of the triangles.
(see diagram). You should have 4 pieces .
Now with right sides together add the center square and sew
the 5 pieces together... (gosh I wish I was better at this). The
center of your block should now be completed.
To complete the outer part of the block sew the two of #2 triangle to the #1 square. (see diagram for placement). When you have all 4 of these units completed sew each one to the inner cross. The outer pieces should be attached to the end of the point of piece #5 completing the block.
The finished block should measure 12 1/2".
