Crosses and Losses

 


fabric requirements:

4 - 2 1/2" squares, light fabric
5 - 3"  squares, light fabric
3 - 3" squares, medium fabric
1 - 5" square, dark fabric

Step #1.

1.  Using 3 of the Light 3" squares and 3 of the Medium 3" squares follow diagram #1 to make half square triangles.  You will have 6 units when done.

2.  Square up each unit to 2 1/2".
 

Step #2.

1.  Sew together the 4 -  2 1/2" squares of light fabric to 4 of the half square triangles as shown below:


2.  Square up these units to 4 1/2" x 2 1/2".

3.  Sew togher  each of these units as shown below:

4.  Square up this unit to 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" squares.
 

Step #3.

1.  Cut on diagonal the remaining 2- 3" squares.

2.  sew together the two remaining half square triangles to the light triangles cut above from the 3" light squares as shown.   Then sew onto this section the larger dark triangle to complete section as shown below:
 

3.  Square up each unit to 4 1/2".
 

Step #4.

1 Sew together each section to complete the block as shown below:

2. Square up to 8 1/2".
