Block of the Month
 

Cut Glass Dish

    This block contains three constrated colors. Though shown in shades of brown, this block can be easily addapted to any color combinations that compliment each other.  All of the instruction below will be described by the colors shown above.

 Fabric requirements:
     3 - 4 1/2"  squares  light brown
     1 - 36" x 3" strip of medium brown (cut into 12 - 3" squares)
     1 - 36" x 3" strip of dark brown      (cut into 12 - 3" squares)
 
 

Step # 1  Make half square triangles

1.  Following  diagram #1 to make half square triangles.  Mark a pencil line across the diagonal of the
     squares.  Sew 1/4" on each  side of the pencil mark. Cut apart on the pencil line.  Press each square to the
     darker fabric.

2.  Using both colors make your have square triangles to reflect this arrangement. ..

*****  note****   these half square triangles are cut larger than necessary to allow for any mistakes in squaring up
                          each of the units
3.  Press and  Square up each unit to 2 1/2".   makes 24 half square trinagles.

Step # 2.  Assembly:

1.  Sew together 4 of the half square triangles to make a square as shown below:



2.  Assemble each of the completed 4 patch sections to the 4 1/2" squares as shown below. Sewing first vertically then horizontally to complete block.
