Quilt Block of the Month

February, 1999
Block #1

rosebud

    The smell of a fresh rose presented on Valentines Day says "I am loved"  Enjoy this 'rosebud' as a sign of
    this special season of Love.

* please make note that many of the fabric requirement are cut a bit larger than actually needed.  This will make it easier to square up the various pieces in each block.

fabric requirements:

2 - 5 1/2" light squares
6 - 2 1/4" light squares
2 - 2" light squares
6 - 2 1/4" medium squares
2 - 4" dark squares
 
 
 
 

Step # 1  make half square triangles:
 

1.  Following  diagram #1 to make half square triangles.  Mark a pencil line across the diagonal.  Sew 1/4" on each
     side of the pencil mark. Cut apart on the pencil line.  Press each square to the darker fabric.

2.  Make  - light to medium squares ( use 6 light 2 1/4" squares to 6 medium 2 1/4" squares) (make 12 units)
      square up each to 1 1/2".

3.  Cut the 2 " light squares on the diagonal.

Step # 2

1.  Sew units made above as shown in diagram below:
 

Step #3

1. Cut the 4" dark squares on the diagonal and attach  the units above as shown below:



 

2. Cut the 5 1/2" light squares on the diagonal and sew to the units as shown below:

Step #4

1. Sew together each quarter as shown below to complete the Rosebud block.
2.  Each quarter should measure 4 1/2".  Square up each quarter before proceeding to put the block together.

2. Square up to 8 1/2".
