
Wow! It is already the second month of this new year and when
I think of all the wonderful things that have happened already in this
new year I am amazed more than you could imagine.
Trying to decide on what I wanted for the February Block
of the Month was only challenged by the number of blocks that I had to
choose from. I knew I wanted to do a block that had "nothing" to
do with Valentine's Day as there are already so many flooding the internet
right now.... so when I came across this 9-patch block pattern I knew right
away this was the one!
cutting instructions:

Making half square triangles.
1. lay front sides together the dark 5" squares to the first medium 5" squares
2. Draw a line on the diagonal of each pair and stitch 1/4" to each
of the diagonal line drawn on each pair (as shown in diagram # 1).

3. Cut apart on the diagonal line. Press open.
4. Square up each of the four half square triangles to 4 1/2"
each.
Step 2.
Making 4-patches:
1. Stitch together second dark and second medium strips. Press open
with seam toward the dark fabric as shown
in diagram #2.
2. Cut across as shown in diagram #3 into 2" pieces. Cut 10.

3. Sew together as shown in diagram #4 so that the colors are
opsite of each other.

4. Press then square up these pieces to 3 1/2".
Step 3.
Putting 4-patches on point:
1. Draw diagonal lines in both directions to intersect center
as shown in diagram #5. Cut on diagonal lines.

2. Sew each of the newly created triangles to each side of the 4-patches. (see see diagram #6)

3. Press each section and square up these sections to 4 1/2".
Step 4.
Block Assembly:
1. Lay out each of the 4 1/2" pieces as shown in diagram #7:
2. Sew across the two horizontial rows then reverse and sew the two vertical rows.
Your block for February 1998 is now completed. The unfinished
size is 12 1/2".
