Fr. Jim's Gems ...

Words to start the New year:  Kick off 20001 with a joyful noise!  "Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth, worship the Lord with gladness; come  into his presence with singing." (Psalm 100:1-2)
So even though December 31 p.m. or January 1 is not a holy day of obligation this year, would you not want God to find you that day "making a joyful noise to the Lord" with the believers around His holy table?

Put your hands in the hand of God as you start the New Year.  Then the New year will be a fresh adventure every morning and a quiet benediction every night.  You will be alive in every portion of your being (E. stanley Jones)

You know you are getting older when:

*  You answer a question with. "Because I said so."
*  You have a party and the neighbors don't even realize it.
*  You're sitting on a park bench and a Boy Scout has to help you cross your legs.
*  When you do the "hokey Pokey" and throw your left hip out, and it stays there.
*  You can remember just about everyone's mom was home when the kids came back from school.
*  You realize that a stamp today cost more than a movie did when you were a kid.
*  Your childhood toys are now in a museum.

The Holy Family's Challenge to us

It is more than interesting that, on this last day of the Jubilee Year of 2000 A.D., we are asked to reflect on the Holy Family.  There is perhaps no more important reality in our daily lives on each day of the many years than that we live within the circle of family life.  God chose, in his infinite wisdom, to become part of this reality through His Beloved Son.
Because of the many threats in our modern society to family life, it is essential that we look at the life of the Holy Family, as much as we know about it, and try to learn something.  One of the first things we learn is how to deal with an adolescent child and the dangers that child may cause within the family.  The other important thing we learn from each and ever one of the Holy Family is the  faith by which they live their faith in God and their faith in each other.  We speak often of the need of improvement in family life in our day and age.  We look today at the example the Holy Family gives us and the challenge to face up to that example.
