Recently, we had to replace the defunct air-conditioner
in the chapel with a new unit. This necessitated taking down the tabernacle
wall (the AC unit is behind it), which, in turn, allowed us the opportunity
to:
Paint the wall so that the tabernacle is as prominent
and stunning as it should be, and
Raise the tabernacle to a more acceptable height.
All this in preparation for Father Victor’s
promotion this week-end of Perpetual Adoration in our parish. This means
not only for pray-ers night and day, but that someone is committed
to be present before the Eucharist every one of the 168 hours of the week.
If more than one person wish to adore during any given hour, so much the
better...as long as, eventually, someone is in adoration 24-7.
With 1,000 families in the parish, we should
be able to achieve such a goal. The fact that we live in perilous times
(some call it End Time) offers more than enough stimulus to bring us to
our knees before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament for one hour a week. If
the urgency of war and terrorism doesn’t move you to commit to watching
one hour with Christ, let love alone do so...love and endless gratitude
to a God who has blessed us and spared us beyond our imagining.
Young adults and teens, don’t think this kind
of prayer is just for old duffers like your folks and me. Please warm the
cockles of our aging hearts by signing up and showing up every week for
one hour with Jesus in the Eucharist. Trust me, your life will be richer,
happier for doing this.

Be fishers of men...you catch ‘em, He’ll clean ‘em
A clean conscience makes a soft pillow
A lot of kneeling will keep you in good standing
Don’t put a question mark where God put a period
Don’t wait for six strong men to take you to church

Monday vs. Tuesday
On Monday there were people fighting against praying
in schools.
On Tuesday you would have been hard pressed to find
a school where someone was not praying.
On Monday there were people who were trying to separate
each other by race, sex, color and creed.
On Tuesday they were all holding hands.
On Monday we thought that we were secure.
On Tuesday we learned better
On Monday we were talking about heroes as being athletes.
On Tuesday we re-learned what hero meant.
On Monday people went to work at the world trade centers
as usual.
On Tuesday they died.
On Monday people were fighting the 10 commandments
on government property.
On Tuesday the same people all said ‘God help us all’
while thinking ‘Thou shalt not kill’.
On Monday people argued with their kids about picking
up their room.
On Tuesday the same people could not get home fast
enough to hug their kids.
On Monday people picked up McDonalds for dinner.
On Tuesday they stayed home.
On Monday people were upset that their dry cleaning
was not ready on time.
On Tuesday they were lining up to give blood for the
dying.
On Monday politicians argued about budget surpluses.
On Tuesday grief stricken they sang ‘God Bless America’.
On Monday we worried about the traffic and getting
to work late.
On Tuesday we worried about a plane crashing into
your house or place of business.
On Monday we were irritated that our rebate checks
had not arrived.
On Tuesday we saw people celebrating people dying
in the USA.
On Monday some children had solid families.
On Tuesday they were orphans.
On Monday the president was going to Florida to read
to children.
On Tuesday he returned to Washington to protect our
children.
On Monday we emailed jokes.
On Tuesday we did not.
It is sadly ironic how it takes horrific events to
place things into perspective, but it has. The lessons learned this week,
the things we have taken for granted, the things that have been forgotten
or overlooked, hopefully will never be forgotten again.

Fr. Jim
