Block of the Month
 
 

Napa Valley








     This block is made of mostly 1/2 square triangles. The color combinations are what make this
     block come to life.

1. Materials needed. (I will be using the colors as described in the finished block picture at the top
    of the page.
    1 - 42" x 3"  strip   light purple
    1 - 24" x 3"  strip   yellow
    1 - 12" x 3"  strip   dark purple
    1 - 6" x 3"   strip    brown
    8 - 2 1/2"     squares  brown

2.  Cut the light purple strip into the following smaller strips:
               1 - 24"
               1 - 12"
               1 - 6"
             --------
      total:  42"

3: Step # 1  make half square triangles:
 

4.  Following  diagram #1 to make half square triangles. Use the  light purple strips and the
     corresponding colors to make the half square triangles.
make pencil mark vertically every 3" across the length of the strips.

    Mark a pencil line across the diagonal.  Sew 1/4" on each side of the pencil mark. Cut apart
     on the pencil line.  Press each square to the darker fabric.  Square up each square to 2 1/2" each.

  5.  Using the following color combinations make the number of half square triangles:
         a.  Yellow to light purple = 16  half square triangles.  Use the 24" strips

        b.  Dark Purple to light purple  = 8 half square triangles.  Use the  12" strips

       c.  Brown to light purple  = 4 half square triangles.  Use the 6" strips

6.  Using the picture of the finished block at the top assemble block in horizontal rows
    then in vertical rows as shown below:
