Block #1
Spinning Star
With the cold winter nights as we stay warm in our homes, stars shine brightly outdoors.  So for these January
days I have chosen some stars to brighten your days and nights.

fabric requirements:

6 - 3 1/2"  light fabric
4 - 3 1/2" medium light fabric
2 - 3 1/2" medium fabric
4 - 3 1/2" dark fabric

* please make note that many of the fabric requirement are cut a bit larger than actually needed.  This will make it easier to square up the various pieces in each block.

Step # 1  make half square triangles:

1.  Following  diagram #1 to make half square triangles.  Mark a pencil line across the diagonal.  Sew 1/4" on each
side of the pencil mark. Cut apart on the pencil line.  Press each square to the darker fabric.  Square up each
     square to 2 1/2" each.
 2. Make 8 - dark to light  (use 4 light squares and 4 dark squares)
Make 4 - light to medium light (use 2 light and 2 medium light squares)
Make 4 - medium light to medium (use 2 medium light and 2 medium squares)

Step #2  Make 4 - patches:

1.  Follow the diagram below to construct 4 - 4-patch units.

2.  Square up these units to 4 1/2" squares and press.
