Block # 2

Yankee's Puzzle
   Yankee Doodle went to town...  and what a ride it was!  Again another of these blocks that recall our "Independence Day" celebrations.
 

* please make note that many of the fabric requirement are cut a bit larger than actually needed.  This will make it easier to square up the various pieces in each block.
 

fabric requirements:

6 - 3 1/2" squares of light fabric
2 - 3 1/2" squares of  medium light fabric
2 - 3 1/2" squares of  medium fabric
6 - 3 1/2" squares of dark fabric


Step # 1  make half square triangles:
 

1.  Following  diagram #1 to make half square triangles.  Mark a pencil line across the diagonal.  Sew 1/4" on each
     side of the pencil mark. Cut apart on the pencil line.  Press each square to the darker fabric.  Square up each
     square to 2 1/2" each.

2.  Make 8 - light to dark squares ( use 4 light squares to 4 dark squares)
     Make 4 - light to medium light squares ( use 2 squares light to 2 squares medium light)
     Make 4 - medium to dark squares ( use 2 squares medium to 2 squares dark)


 

Step # 2
1.  Follow the diagram below to construct 4 - 4-patch units.

2.  Square up these units to 4 1/2" squares and press.

Step #3.  Block Assembly:

1.  Follow the diagram below to assemble all four of the 4-patch units.
 


 

2. Square up to 8 1/2".
