June, 1999
Block #1

House that Jack Built
Here it is already June and the summer is on us!  As usual the gardening and other household repairs must
begin.  And of course June is also the the time we celebrate the men we share our lives with. Father's Day and
other thoughts of the special men in our lives all go into "The House that Jack Built".

* please make note that many of the fabric requirement are cut a bit larger than actually needed.  This will make it easier to square up the various pieces in each block.

fabric requirements:

6 - 3 1/2" light squares
8 - 3 1/2" medium squares
2 - 3 1/2" dark squares

Step # 1  make half square triangles:

1.  Following  diagram #1 to make half square triangles.  Mark a pencil line across the diagonal of the 3 1/2"
squares.  Sew 1/4" on each  side of the pencil mark. Cut apart on the pencil line.  Press each square to the
darker fabric.  Square up eachsquare to 2 1/2" each.
 2. Using all the 3 1/2" squares for your half square triangles use one medium color square against each of the
      other colors .
Make 4 medium-dark units and 12 medium to light units.

Step # 2

 1. Following the diagram below, sew together first vertically then horizontally to complete block.

2. Square up to 8 1/2".
