Parchment Crafting
for
June, 1999
Trying to come up with a parchment pattern that would express something that the men in our lives would appreciate was a difficult challenge.  And even now I am not sure that if I put my mind to it I might think of something else along the  way.  When I think of my own father and some of the wonders we shared together this was the image that kept coming to mind... the tranquil times together while fishing on Sunday mornings.  Listening to all the things he was trying to teach me on living in the wilderness and the value of the land.  As a young girl I learned to shoot a 12  gauge single barrel shot gun, (under his supervision of course)  I was hardly tall enough to reach the trigger.  He would take me into the woods with him to shoot small game and towards evening we would wonder at the hills and mountains that some times surrounded us.
As an adult I try to recall many of those lessons he taught me.  I still love to spend as much time as I can fishing off the bank of our Lake and every morning I awaken to the beauty of the woods in my front yard and the slope of the high hills that go upward toward the sky.  To know much of the local wild plant life is another thing instilled in me.  The folklore and uses of many of the plants that can be eaten or used medicinally in emergency situations.  He taught me, and we learned together the science and art of Beekeeping.  I became his eyes as his vision failed and we all got involved in the extracting process... but it was I that spent most of my 'free' time buried inside a bee hive.  And believe me there is a lot to monitor especially when we has as many as 95 hives at our maximum!
Doing these things with my father will always be remembered and treasured.
So this month of June as an honor not only to my own father but to all men that will guide their children I give you this special card.

May the mountains Proclaim the goodness

*note:  Use a full sheet of pergamano paper for this project.  This will allow aprox 1/2" around the outside of the pattern design.

Tracing:
1.  Use white ink to trace clouds
2.  Use black ink to trace outer lines, and all mountains and reflections.

Embossing:
1.  Using small embossing tool emboss all areas done in black.
2.  Using fine embossing tool emboss all clouds.

Painting:
1.  Use white perla paint to paint mountain peak and reflection.
2.  Use dark blue to paint water line in the center.
3.  Use dark green to paint the upper part of the mountain as well as the reflection.
4.  Use light green to paint lower part of mountain as well as the reflection.  Use wide brush strokes of the light
green to blend with the darker green in an upward motion.

Embossing:
1.  Use hockey tool or large bowl embossing tool and emboss in circular motion the lighter green areas.

Dorsing:

1.  Use red against the mountain peaks and out toward the horizon edges.
2.  Use red, light blue, and purple above the mountain top and blend outwardly to cover all the sky areas and the
red and light blue on the reflection.
3.  Use brown along the outside of the boarder lines (black) to cover to the outer edge of the card and to the fold
line of the front and back of card.

It is always a challenge for me and many others to come up with designs specifically for the men in our lives.
So as you have noticed there are no perforations on this composition as it stands.  Feel free of course to embellish this pattern in anyway that will best suit your personal needs.
