King's Crown
This pattern might have been named by a pioneer quilter perhaps after she had read the story of one of the early Hebrew kings - David or Solomon.  Or, perhaps the name was inspired by the New Testament Messiah, Jesus, as he represents the Kivine King.  We are not sure after which Biblical person this pattern was named, but we can find in its geometric patches, a pleasing symbol of a crown.
Although the sample block shown here was made of only two fabrics (actually a solid white and a printed blue), you can use three different fabrics for additonal color.

Cutting Instructions:

Color A = dark
Color B = light

#1
cut 2 color A
cut 1 color B

#2
cut one color B

#3
cut 5 color B

#4
cut 1 color A

#5
cut 1 color A

Sew together sections #2 and #4 to make the first half of the block (see diagram). Set this piece aside for right now.  Next assemble a 4-patch piece consisting of the three #1 squares and one of the #3 triangles.  Sew together a #3 triangle to the straight edge sides of  #5 (see diagram).  Attach the remain two #3 triangles to the dark #1 squares with diagonal outwardly.  Now you are ready to sew the bottom and right side pieces to the inner pieces (4-patch with wings it what I like to call it).
Now the only thing left to do is to sew the two sections together and  the mitered seam that joins the bottom and outer right sides.

This block should be a 12 1/2" block

This is the forth in a series of Scriptural blocks.
