Block # 2

Spring Beauty

The hope of Spring is now upon us as we await the first days of Spring.  The dawning of New Life shows through
   in this "Spring Beauty".

* please make note that many of the fabric requirement are cut a bit larger than actually needed.  This will make it easier to square up the various pieces in each block.

 fabric requirements:

4 - 3" squares light (cut on diagonal)
10 - 2 1/2" Squares light (cut on diagonal)
1 - 2 1/2" square dark
6 - 3" squares dark (cut on diagonal)

Step # 1

1. Sew a light triangle (cut from the 2 1/2" squares cut on the diagonal) to all four sides of the dark  2 1/2" square.
2.  To sew with accuracy, sew these triangles to both horizontal sides first, then sew the remaining two triangles
to the vertical sides.  See diagram below:

Step # 2

1.   Using the remainder of the 16 triangles cut from the 2 1/2" squares  Sew a light triangle to each side of a dark triangle as shown below:

2.  Make 8 units of these 'flying geese)

3.  Sew two units together to make 4 units as shown below:

Step # 3

1.  Attach one unit from above to opposing sides of the center square.  Cap off with a dark triangle as shown below:
2.  Cap end of this row with dark triangle.  See diagram below:

Step # 4

1.  Sew together two of the light triangles from the 3" squares cut on the diagonal as shown below. Repeat this
     procedure to make 4 sections.

2.   Sew together the 4 triangle sections just made to the remaining 'flying geese' sections not sewn in the line
      above.   See diagram below:

Step # 5  Block assembly:

1.  Sew the sections made above to each side of the long row made in step # 3.  See diagram below for assembly:

2. Square up to 8 1/2".
