Installment # 2
This is the second installment of Mystery # 5.   I you have not completed installment # 1 do so at this time before proceeding to step # 2.

1.  Using the 48 -  8" x 8" squares,  place them front to front.  Make every attempt to pair them lighter to darker.

2.  Following the diagrams below, make pencil marks 4" vertical and 4" horizontally.  Then make a pencil line as
shown on the diagonal of these marked of 4" x 4" sections.

3.  Sew each pair together along the diagonal lines.  Seam allowance each side of the pencil marks is 1/4"

4.  Press and square up each of the newly created half square triangles to 3 1/2".

****  Important note:  for the best results when making your half square triangles accurate. ALWAYS PRESS EACH SQUARE and then SQUARE THEM UP!  Not doing so will greatly compromise the outcome of your finished quilt...  Though this part is very time consuming and tedious for many it is the MOST important step to making the perfect quilt.

5.  From each set of 8 - 3 /12" half square triangle make 2 Pinwheel blocks as shown below:

6.  Make 48 - 6 1/2" pinwheel blocks using the technique above.  Be sure to square up finished blocks at 6 1/2".
Set all 48 pinwheel blocks aside until the next installment.

7.  Using the 12 - 4" squares make half square triangles as shown bellow:

8.  Press and square up each of the 12 newly created half square triangles to 3 1/2".  Set all 12 half square
