Block of the Month


My Star

Well, I decided that it was time for me to try and put together my own star pattern.  Now of course I don't know if someone has already designed the block or not and I have not seen it in any of my travels through all my quilting books and magazines.  And believe me I have looked!  If you could have seen me at the computer with this one you would be laughing your socks off!  I have seen blocks that are very similar but still this is just a bit different (or so I hope any way)  So lets begin the fun!

Fabric requirements:
*4 - 3 1/2" squares of  ...............*4 - 2"  squares of.......... .
*4 - 3" squares of ................ .....*4 - 2 5/8"  squares of .. ...
*4 - 4" squares of       ................*1 - 3 1/2" square of .......
*4 - 2 1/2" squares of............... *2 - 2 1/2" squares of.......

Step #1 Cutting Instructions:

1.   Cut .4 - 2 1/2" squares of   ... on the diagonal.*
2.  Cut the 4 - 3" squares of ......  on the diagonal.*
3.  Cut the 4 - 4" squares of ........on the diagonal.*..
4.  Cut the 2 - 2 1/2" squares of  on the diagonal.*
 

4.  For easy of sewing pieces together it is     now recommended that you lay all pieces out following the
     diagram below.

Step #2. Piecing large outer triangles

1.   To make this  section begin by sewing the larger  triangles to the 2 5/8" squares of .
      Then  press this section.
2.   To complete this section now sew the larger triangles of  to each side as shown in the diagram above.

3.  Repeat this process to make 4 -  6 1/2" x 3 1/2" sections.  Press and square up to 6 1/2" x 3 1/2".
4.  Sew to two of the above section  3 1/2" squares to each side as shown .

Step #3 Piecing small inner triangles.

1.  To make the  section use smaller  triangle and the smaller triangles of .  Sew the the

     triangles together as shown above.   Make 4 of this section.

2.  Press and square up this section to  3 1/2" x 2"
3.  To two of these section sew on one  2" squares as shown .

Step #4 Block assembly

1.  Using the 3 /12" square of  ,  sew to opposite sides   as shown .
2.  Next sew   1.
.................. ....  2.
...................... 3.
.......This will complete the center of the block.

3.  attach to this section , .  to opposite sides as shown .

4.  Attach  ....1...................
...................    2.
.....................3.

5.  Press and square up block to 12 /12"
