Parchment Craft Pattern
for
September 1999
Summer's bloomin' Sunflowers
I started out with an entirely different pattern developed and completed for the month of September 1999. But here it is now the 20th of August and I have drastically changed my mind about what I want to do for this last month of Summer and the last summer of the century!
The most difficult part of putting this pattern together was not in drawing out the sunflowers, or in all the embossing, painting, coloring or tracing... it was in just what I wanted to do with the finished piece. Because the finished piece is deminsional I had to really put some thought to it and the more I looked at it the more I thought of just how perfect it would look mounted for a picture on the wall!!!! So that is exactly what I decided to do. By using the black paper as the background with a white matt board the finished composition was (in my opinion) stunning!
I hope you have as much fun with it as I have!!!

Tracing: Trace with white ink around all flowers, petals, leaves, and accent lines.
Trace with Gold Ink around frame lines.
Embossing:
Use a small ball embossing tool and emboss around all ink lines.
Use a shading tool or hockey tool to shade and define all petals and leaves.
Painting:
Use either acrylic paints or water color markers to proide color to the
composition. The different
mediums will provide a different finished effect.
For leaves use a darker and light/medium green alternating each side
of the center viens.
For the flower petals, use a bright summery yellow and highlight
the top and bottom of each petal
using a rust or light brown.
For each flower center use a soft/light brown or blend to provide just
a bit of diffenence in color that is on
the tips of each petal.
Perforation:
Use either the 4-prong straight tool or the two-prong tool to walk
around each of the cut away areas of the
composition. Release and remove all cut-away perforated areas.
Cut away all the solid darkened areas of the pattern.
Cut out each for the four leaf sections made seperately from main pattern.
Completing Composition:
After you have completed the perforations and the four additional
leaf sections. cut-away the excess
paper away from the frame edges.
Use foam, double sided mounting tape to mount each of the four leaf sections
to cover the mounting section
and edge of the composition (see finished composition above for detail).
Mount finished parchment to black (or color of choice) paper.
Finish by mounting completed piece to matt board.
I hope you have enjoyed this fun project as much as I have.
