"Think Spring" Mystery Quilt
Installment # 4
Well in these parts the ground hog saw his shadow so we should be looking at an early sping.  So of course I am "Thinking  Spring" more and more. Here in Michigan we just completed the second warmest January recorded and February has started off with more mild days.  As many other parts of the USA are being pelted with all sorts of bad weather, especially the snow we usually get, we here are having sunshine and a bit of comparitive warmth. I am enjoying it a great deal while the winter sports lovers are not!  So now we can all be thinking of the warmer Spring days as we go on to part #4 of the "Think Spring" mystery quilt.
This weeks installment will again be a simple one. (Not that any of the installments will be difficult).  If you have not completed  step 1  ,  step 2  and  step 3      will need to do so before progressing on to this step.

*******Important cutting instruction notice *******************
I discovered an error in the cutting instructions I provided for you.  Origionally you were required to cut " 8 " of the
    1 3/4" x 2 1/2" rectangles... the correct number is " 16 "  1 3/4" X 2 1/2" rectangles.  Also there are a couple of other
corrections in fabric requirements and cutting instructions... You will also need to cut 4 - 3" squares of green and  you will
need fewer of the 3" x 2" rectangles... cut only 4 of each of the pink and the green.  Again I apologize for any difficulties this
may cause any of you..  Please check the cutting charts in step #1 for all corrections.*****************

Step #1. Make the two color squares:

1. Using 8 - 1 3/4" x 2 1/2"pink rectangles and the 8 green recthangle sew them together length wise as shown below.

diagram #1       there will be 8 sections of these 2 1/2" square.

2. Press toward the green.

3. Square up to 2 1/2" .

Step #2.  Making diagonal cut squares:

1. Using the 2" x 3" rectangles cut on the diagonal.

2.  Using one pink and one green diagonal cut sew each pair together with 1/4" seam allowance. Be carcful not to
stretch the bias while sewing together.

3.  Using the remaining 8  - 2 1/2" x 1 3/4" rectangles, sew lengthwise to the above rectangles. You should have
2 1/2" squares that look like the image below.
*****please make note here that the additional 1 3/4" x 2 1/2" rectangles are required for this step.*******

diagram # 2

4. Press and square up to 2 1/2"

Step #3.  Putting together these units.

1.  Sew together both of these completed 2 1/2" squares as shown in the diagrams below.  It will be necessary to reverse the seams so pay close attention to the diagrams below.

2.  While sewing together be sure to match up the seams.

3.  Also while sewing together be sure that the "green" point of the  second square is pointing outward. as shown above.

This is all for installment #4.   See you next week!  Installment # 5 will be out on February 16th.

** personal note. Installment # 6 may be a bit late as I am having eye surgery on February 16th.. It is my hope that I will have this installment out for you timely but it may be a few days late. ***
