Now as we are going into the fifth installment of the "Think
Spring" mystery quilt here on New Life Creations, the most exciting
part for me is beginning. That is to keep you in suspense for as
long as possible as this fun project begins to take shape. The next
several installments present some unique challenges for me as I prepare
them for you. So here we go!
This weeks installment will again be a simple one. (Not that
any of the installments will be difficult). If you have not
completed step #1 ,
step #2 , step
#3 , and step #4
will need to do so before progressing on to this step.
Step #1. Assembly of the Pink/White Half Square triangles.
1. Using the Installment #2 24 - 3 1/2" Pink/White half
square triangles you made earlier, sew these 24 squares into pairs
as shown in the diagram below. Don't forget your 1/4" seam allowance.

# 1
You will have 12 pairs when completed.
2. Press with seams toward your darker
fabric.
3. Square up each unit to 6 1/2".
Step #2.
1. You will now need to get "8" of the white 3 1/2" squares and "4" of the units you just prepared in step #1 above.
2. Sew a white 3 1/2" square to each side of the above unit. *** Make sure the point of the piece above is pointing downward as shown in the assembly diagram below. (of course be sure to use a 1/4" seam allowance).

3. When these pieces are sewn together you
will have 4 units that should measure 12 1/2" x 3 1/2"
4. Press each unit with seams going toward the darker fabric.
5. Square up to 12 1/2" x 3 1/2".
6. Now set all these lovelies aside until next
weeks installment!
Installment #6 should be available for you
on Monday February 23. 1998.

Personal note* With my eye surgery scheduled only hours from now I want to thank all of you who have sent kind thought and prayers for the success of this procedure. Of course I am looking to have the maximum outcome of this procedure which could possibly restore up to 40% of the visual fields in my left eye. It is of course my hope to be able to stay right on schedule with the next installment of the "Think Spring" Mystery Quilt so be sure to check next Monday for Installment #6.
